Tottenham Boss Thomas Frank Labels Vicario Critics 'Not Real Supporters'

The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Beat Spurs and Raise Pressure on Frank

Spurs supporters who booed keeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed later "they can't be true Tottenham supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.

Tottenham let in two goals in the opening six minutes to lose 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th Premier League home defeat of 2025.

But the primary talking point was the visitors' next score when the keeper gave away possession well outside his box.

The goalkeeper came out to deal with a long ball and took the ball near the sideline.

But, instead of booting it out of play, the Italian spun and tried to clear away, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was controlled by King.

The forward laid the ball off to Welsh midfielder Wilson, who curled a shot into the net from the touchline recorded at 36.6 yards.

Seconds afterwards when the ball came to the keeper once more, a number of Tottenham fans jeered him.

Spurs were jeered off at half-time, with the side 2-0 down, and again at the final whistle.

A particular of those booing sessions really irritated the manager.

"I heard some of our supporters apparently jeered the incident and booed following, which, in my view is totally unacceptable," the Danish manager stated regarding the fans' reaction to his shot-stopper.

"[They] cannot be true Spurs fans that act that way. Alright jeering after the game, fine, but when we are playing, we are backing one another, we are with each other moving ahead."

Tete had given the visitors a fourth-minute advantage prior to Harry Wilson's goal – with Kudus netting for Tottenham in an improved second-half showing.

Ex- Premier League keeper Hart stated that the next score was "completely preventable".

"I do appreciate the fans' frustration," the ex-keeper added. "I know the role Vicario is performing. He is a excellent squad member, he's a real leader in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your decisions.

"He was deeply involved in what ended up to be the winning goal."

'It is Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Frank Defended His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Match

Italy international Vicario is in his third campaign with Tottenham.

He stated following the match that he had to take the criticism.

"That score was a error of mine, I take responsibility for that," he commented.

"The intent was to kick the ball far and I simply struck the ball in a bad manner. That made an even bigger challenge to climb."

He said receiving jeers "is part of football".

"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he continued. "The team cannot be affected by the circumstances in the crowd. Supporters have the entitlement to do what they think.

"It's on us to stay increasingly composed, to focus on ourselves. We are missing in composure and poise to reverse results. Today is a bad defeat and it is hard to take."

'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Goal Line'

Despite the keeper's error, it was far from an easy goal for Wilson to convert.

Actually it was the next longest-range top division score of the season – after Tyler Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which interestingly also occurred on the same day.

Wilson stated he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an open net to aim for.

Ten moments elapsed between the keeper coming out of his box and the midfielder striking – which was 5 moments following the kick.

"I felt like the keeper was away from the area for a long time," he said.

"It amazed me not one of the defenders returned to the goal line. When none of them defended the goal, my interest sparked somewhat.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which allowed me a bit of extra time. Then it was all about attempting to achieve the right connection and place it on target. I felt a positive sense, as soon as it left my boot, that it was heading in."

'During in a Poor Run, All Seems to Work Against You'

Jeering Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unacceptable - Frank

Although the keeper's mistake dominated headlines, this was an all-round bad day for Spurs to extend their home woes.

The match was their tenth at home loss of the year in the league, a shared club statistic along with 1994 and two thousand and three.

The side still have home fixtures against Frank's old side Brentford and champions the Reds to play before the end of the year.

Only one of those wins have come since Frank took over from his predecessor in the off-season.

"When you're behind 2-0 following six minutes, there is a huge challenge to climb," stated Frank.

"When you're in a poor run, everything appears to work against you too – the opening was a deflected attempt, the next is a error from Vic.

"The outcome leaves us in a place where we have suffered an additional game. Every game has a single story, this game we were defeated in the first six minutes.

"We simply need to continue striving. The second half was much better and hopefully something we can utilize to develop."

Tottenham have been defeated in four consecutive home capital clashes for the initial time in the Premier League.

And they are recording 9.5 shots and three point two efforts on goal per match in the division – their poorest rates on record in a single season (since at least 2003-04).

Former Cottagers midfielder Murphy commented that Frank has to endure the criticism.

"He's got take the stick," Murphy said. "He has accepted a high profile role at a huge team with massive expectation. There is pressure and responsibility that accompanies that.

"Their showings at home have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
