The English Team to Launch Euro 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground

England’s men’s team will commence their UEFA Euro 2028 journey at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they secure the anticipated entry for a tournament taking place in the bulk of Britain and the Irish Republic.

The Etihad Stadium has not hosted an English men’s fixture since eight years ago, when the visitors were defeated 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to welcome the England side for their opening fixture on Saturday 10 June 2028.

The English side are set to play their last two group stage games at Wembley, but, in the event of winning the preliminary round, their knockout stage opener would be held at St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean beginning the elimination stage at Everton’s ground.

Competition Launch and Demonstration

The tournament was inaugurated at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday evening. High-ranking officials from Uefa and the host football associations were heckled as they arrived the site by around fifty pro-Palestine demonstrators, who demanded Israel’s national side to be kicked out from the sport because of the Gaza crisis.

Placards were held up with slogans reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Schedule

The first match of the tournament will be held at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a game that will include the Welsh team if they secure a place.

Wembley Stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the final, which will be staged on Sunday 9 July with a start time at late afternoon.

It is expected that an earlier kick-off, which will also be used for UEFA Champions League finals from the upcoming season, will appeal to families and help engage a broader range of viewers.

Participating Countries

The Ireland are scheduled to play their opening match at the Dublin Arena and the Scottish team would follow suit at the national stadium of Scotland.

All four host countries’ teams will take part in the qualification process; two reserved places will be held in reserve for any that miss out on the finals through the standard process.

Stadiums and Playoffs

Villa Park and The North London arena finalize the nine tournament locations. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the last eight staged at each country’s national stadium.

The draw for the qualifiers will be held in Belfast, which was excluded as a host city last year when it emerged Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.

Official Statement

“It will be a tournament for the supporters and a festival of everything we cherish about the sport – its fervor and capacity to foster unity.”

Over 3 million tickets, a unprecedented number for a men’s European Championship, are expected to be released to supporters.
