Pursuing Different Paths Outside of Coaching Speaking on air, Southgate was questioned on rumors linking him with open coaching positions in the English football and abroad. “I’ve had one of the most incredible jobs in football which also had a higher purpose because it was my country,” he responded. “That’s going to be very hard to replicate. Having had 37 years in football I’m enjoying finding other areas where I think I might be able to make a difference.” Commitment to Role Models Ahead of the publication of his forthcoming publication, Dear England: Lessons in Leadership, he shared that he is deeply committed about setting examples for young people, drawing on insights from his period as England’s men’s football manager between 2016 and 2024, as well as his personal family life. Southgate feels that his experience coaching England, during which the team evolved from being strongly criticized to greatly admired, holds wider relevance. “At the beginning, there was a major gap between the team and the fans,” he explained. “The public viewed the players as egotistical, yet we successfully reversed that image. The country is full of potential, but young individuals require positive influences and supportive peers, as these choices shape their futures profoundly.” Common Ground Above Division He insisted that “there is more that unites us [in the UK] than divides us” but that the societal attention often emphasizes conflict. “One can see why many feel disillusioned,” he said. “Many areas face economic hardship, which naturally inspires demands for improvement. However, I’ve experienced the power of national unity. In the Covid crisis, acts of community support showed the country at its finest, proving our resilience when challenged.” The manager’s forthcoming book, the book Dear England, is scheduled to present further insights on guidance and public spirit inspired by his distinguished time in football.
