Almost 55,000 families have currently been affected by the rains, with their items and temporary homes ruined.

Intense precipitation over the recent period have compounded the extremely difficult living conditions of the hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, as reported by aid groups.

"Terrible" Night Brings Grave Risks

A spokesman detailed the recent storm as "horrendous", with precipitation so severe that around 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the terrain.

"The recent weather was exceptionally difficult for the families. The heavy rains were so powerful... And the winds were so forceful," noted the spokesperson.

Officials express extreme concern that minors living in tents in soaked clothing will contract hypothermia and various sicknesses.

Deaths and Widespread Destruction

Medical officials have stated that one baby has passed away from the cold and a minimum of 11 other people have been killed in roof cave-ins triggered by the storms.

Additional accounts put a greater death toll. Officials stated that multiple structures had fully given way and many others had sustained partial collapse.

  • Nearly 55,000 families affected by the weather.
  • More than 40 emergency safe spaces submerged.
  • Many people compelled to find new shelter.

Aid Operations Seen as Insufficient

Groups have escalated distribution of shelter, bedding and clothes following the halt in hostilities started, but they stress there is still not enough aid getting in.

"Agencies are working relentlessly to provide that assistance and to distribute it, but the magnitude of the needs is so immense that we continue to see thousands of people and children who are really suffering each evening," cautioned one spokesperson.

Ongoing Challenges and Truce Provisions

The second phase of the truce involves arrangements for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the removal of military forces, and other conditions.

Aid groups have stressed the need for "increased and sustained relief to respond to urgent and ongoing requirements."

The conflict was initiated by an offensive in October 2023. Following campaigns have caused a significant number of fatalities in the territory, based on medical data.
