🔗 Share this article Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Initiating Abusive Chants About Coach Chris Wilder Patrick Bamford has joined Sheffield United only half a year after instigating disrespectful songs directed at their manager, Wilder. The 32-year-old striker, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a contract with the Championship club in difficulty through the winter. His seven-year career with Leeds finished by mutual consent in August. One of the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player included starting abusive songs regarding Chris Wilder amid the club’s success festivities in April. Now, the one-cap England international will feature for Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to pull his beloved club out of the relegation zone. Past History Between the Striker and Wilder The pair had history prior to Leeds moved up back to the top flight the previous campaign and United lost the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager called the forward as a "muppet" back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds United missed out in the promotion playoffs. Making Amends & Moving Forward Everything appears to have been resolved with United, the league's lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement up front and Bamford looking to rejuvenate his playing days. The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day. Wilder said back then: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I have no issue at all with it. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and admired him giving me a call. “We had a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel as well and we had a half-hour chat with him and he's a super guy, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would give it and accept it and that is an integral part of football at every level, including Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.” Latest Career Struggles The forward featured in 18 appearances with Leeds United last season but the ex- Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
