The British tennis star earned the most important success of his career by rebounding from a early deficit to defeat top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz in three hard-fought sets in the second round of the Paris Masters.

Although he had earlier defeated Alcaraz on two occasions, this triumph marks Norrie's maiden victory over a reigning world No 1.

"Enormous. Extremely important for me," stated Norrie, who joins as the latest British man in the record books to beat a top-ranked player. "Returning from injury last year, I fell in the first round of qualifiers here. I just sought to enjoy my performance in the second half of the year. To get a win like this, it's the biggest victory of my tennis journey, my first win over the world No 1 and arguably the strongest player in the world right now."

Norrie, ranked No 31, also ended Alcaraz's supreme sequence of nine finals in a row and 17 successive Masters 1000 wins, which was the best series of performances in the Spaniard's young career.

Game Breakdown

The top seed appeared to be progressing easily towards victory at the start as he sailed in the first set. Nevertheless, the British contender slowly battled back back into the game by delivering with sharper placement and dragging the Spaniard into prolonged, physical rallies. His persistent steadiness and reliability gradually made an impact.

Through most of the match, the world number one served well but he struggled badly to get his timing right on his baseline shots. The 22-year-old looked notably struggling executing his signature shot, which has been the best shot in the sport for most of this season, committing 29 forehand unforced errors and a combined of 54 errors.
